"Our schools are always demanding a musical option for the tour, and it's hard to find one that is age-appropriate, time-appropriate, AND artistically excellent. Needless to say, I was incredibly pleased when I found Super Sidekick." - Aimee S. Reid, Artistic Director of The Treehouse Troupe

"I was first drawn to Super Sidekick:The Musical because the show could be done with minimal set and flexible casting. When you are working on a small budget and with teens who fluctuate in regards to their involvement, having a show that was flexible was very important. But after reading a sample of the show, I loved the heart-warming story, how it made me laugh and all the nerdy inside jokes. I knew the teens would love the score and they literally would be sing the songs one their lunch break and before and after rehearsal. They couldn't get enough of the songs and they really resonated with the heart of the show." - Larisse Campbell, Artistic Director of the Eastside Story Guild Youth Program

“What we really loved about this show is that the sidekick is the hero in the end. It tells a story of friendship, loyalty, being brave and facing your fears. It also has action, adventure, hilarious moments and touching moments. The music is beautifully written and adds the perfect touch to the script itself. We just couldn’t pass this one up. Plus, there are ninja koalas! Who can say no to that?” - Bethany Dunham, Education Director, Topeka Civic Theatre

The Creators

Meet the storytelers behind the show!

    Gregory Crafts

Gregory Crafts grew up wanting to be a Ninja Koala. However, because he thought his parents would frown upon a career choice that involved him working as a hench-bear for an evil sorcerer (ninja skills or not), he decided to study acting instead. In 2006, Gregory began writing the story that would become Super Sidekick as a gift for his then yet-to-be-born nephew, Brody. Working on this story changed Greg's life, as he got to know the girl of his dreams at the play's first reading. That girl, Jenn, became his best friend and later his wife, proving that you can live happily ever after. Greg is a proud alumni of Emerson College, an Eagle Scout and a 1st Dan Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. He enjoys baseball, video games, and anything creative. For more information about L.A. Music & Lyrics

Michael Gordon Shapiro writes music for film, television, the concert hall, live theater… really, anyone with a checkbook or convincing-looking IOU. He's scored nine feature films including Home Room (starring Erika Christensen, Busy Phillips, and Victor Garber) and Against Time (starring Ean Merig, Robert Loggia, and Craig T. Nelson). His video game work includes music for Star Trek: Conquest, and Empire Earth 2 and 3. In addition to his work on Super Sidekick, he's written a slew of award-winning, internationally produced miniature musicals which have recently been compiled into an anthology called A Feast of Snacks. His favorite super-hero, other than Inky, is Joss Whedon's interpretation of Colossus. Visit Michael on the web at

Giving Back

Here's how you can be a hero, too!
The Australia Koala (inspiration for our own Ninja Koalas) is an endangered species. The team behind Super Sidekick: The Musical wants to change that by doing whatever we can to help them flourish again.

To that end, Greg and Mike have pledged to donate a portion of the royalties earned from all licensed productions of Super Sidekick: The Musical to the Australian Koala Foundation - a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and preserving the Australian Koala.

Furthermore, Greg and Mike will have a eucalyptus tree planted in Harrold's Forrest, a Koala preserve, in honor of each company that mounts a proudction of Super Sidekick: The Musical. To date, there have been twelve trees planted in Harrold's Forest in honor of companies producing the show. Will your group be next?
